We don’t own the world, we only borrow it from our children. With this in mind, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced plans to build the promising field of digital media and learning with $50 million budget and estimated five years to finish.
The purpose of this research is to understand the impact of the use of digital media on youth. It tests the theory that digital youth are different because they use digital tools to gain knowledge, play, communicate, and create social networks. In 2007, six books, online and in print, will be published about the research of digital media and learning topics. A nonprofit youth development organization Global Kids also plays its part in the research by organizing online discussions and running a written essay competition for kids in which they describe their everyday use of digital media.
