Tips for Web 2.0 Startup Names

colbertlow,

There are 7 tips for choosing the right name for Web 2.0 startups. Firstly, make sure to keep the length at a minimum which will make it easier for users to access your service or type a URL. A good length for one word names is five to six letters and should never exceed two words. Next, is the name should be generic or original. Choose for an expensive generic name that accurately describes what you are about, or be creative by choosing an effective and unique name that stands out. Do not forget to encourage Word of Mouth (WoM) by making the company names easy to pronounce or spell. After that, capture the .com which means think about a name that fits a .com instead of working domain extensions around to fit your name. Avoid using hyphens as it just burdens your startup just because the hyphen-less domain was already registered. Avoid domain hacks by registering the .com version and forward it to your domain hack. Finally, keep the name meaningful by combining a descriptive word with a meaningful, generic word. Make sure the descriptive word gives people a clear idea of what exactly your company does.

Great tips. Now I’m thinking of something for my new venture. How does Morron or Superr sound to you?
