Get rid of your boss!

A new helpline, if you happen to have a boss you’d rather not have. One option, of course, is to find another position. But if you’re quite happy where you are, and he (or she) is the only fly in the ointment….

Employmint is a new … um, you can’t really call it social networking … recruitment site, with a difference. Unlike most recruitment sites, this revolves around referrals. Any potential employer can post a job for free. Jobseekers can list for free, and either apply or provide referrals.

Using social networking and referrals for jobsearch isn’t new. LinkedIn and others pioneered this. Simplyhired makes use of LinkedIn’s search. Yorz is another net-to-work site.

Here’s the twist. Any employer can decide how much he’s willing to pay, for a successful placement. And the payment goes to the person who’s provided the referral.

The site has some interesting Web 2.0 implementations. AJAX, for instance – When you start typing, for example “Ma…” the pop-down shows a variety of choices including Macromedia and Managers. Tagging is supported, and a Job Cloud shows you the popular tags. A Job Map, powered by Microsoft Virtual Earth. Personal blogs for users. Most of these work well with Firefox – but IE still gives errors, if you’re still using that.

The only problem – this site’s based out of South Africa. Think your boss will move there?

Or if he prefers Canada, try out Job Loft. Uses Google Maps to locate the nearest job. Too bad if it’s a promotional bike rider position, but hey, it’s the nearest. Just call it a promotion, and leave it at that.
