Website Introductions and Tutorials with Amberjack

Paul Glazowski,

So you’ve prepped up your new site for its big (hopefully) day in the sun, and you think a little introduction would be a nice final touch to making first-time visitors feel a little more welcome and get to know all aspects of your prized [possession?] for the full-monty experience. What do you do? Well, you could simply write up a piece bulleting your way to encapsulating ‘yoursite.com/net/biz/blah’. Too bland? Ok, then you might want to check out Amberjack.

Whatever product you’re pushing, whether it’s a news outlet, a community-driven catalogue, a gallery or whathaveyou, Amberjack has availed an open source library to the world that enables you to customize a virtual presentation to suit, ahem, the source.

You may do what you want with it, but they do offer some prepackaged options for people who don’t want to bother mastering more code than they absolutely need to. Fittingly, they run you through your options with Amberjack by presenting a demonstration tour utilizing the very same structure you’ll be using. And there’s no shoddiness to this setup; something you’ll quickly learn yourself.

Arash Yalpani is the brainchild behind this free deal, and he’s made it a point to mention its non-profit mission, so if you plan to incorporate Amberjack into your project, be sure to drop him a line of thanks. You can help make it better and participate in the discussions in the forum too.

From my point of view, a shout out to the countless folk hammering their keyboards for the sake of keeping Javascript working for us all can’t go without mention. It’s been quintessential to the web explosions of the past and present. It’ll be 11 years young come next month.
