Skype On A Mobile Phone

??
The huge success of Skype and Voice Over IP, has spawned opportunities for a variety of offerings seeking to capitalize on this growing market. Phones, headsets and webcams from a variety of makers including Philips, Linksys and Netgear, Adaptors to use your regular phone with Skype ??? the list goes on and on.
But the Holy Grail for Skype as well as users is to have it accessible through a mobile phone. Noone likes to be tied down to one place, or out of touch while on the move. That???s why mobile phones have become a ???must have???, even though usage costs more on a mobile than on a land line. Over the years, costs have indeed dropped to the point where it???s affordable, for local use.
However, roaming charges and international calling, are still significantly expensive. Telco???s have fought back with budget offerings using VOIP lines, and from the early static filled conversations with odd pauses and breaks, voice quality has improved. But it still costs much more to talk overseas ??? and if you???re traveling, roaming charges can hit you even more. Which is why everyone’s looking for a mobile Skype option.
You might get it - Soonr than you expected. Soonr has a lot more on offer, but the possibility of using Skype is probably what???s driving the interest. There???s a client software that you download to your broadband connected PC. From your mobile phone, you login to your account on the Soonr website ??? this allows you to access your desktop. Once you???re connected, you can access a variety of files and applications on your desktop, including Outlook, Skype and Desktop Search.
This provides an interesting alternative to the conventional PDAphone / smartphone ??? as Soonr describes it, ???Any phone with data access becomes a smart phone???. Apart from the Skype alternative, you have access to your calendar and email ??? without having to syncrhonise periodically, the way you have to with a PDA.
For Skype, Soonr still seems to have a limitation ??? you can call out, but receiving calls isn???t mentioned. There is a limited text messaging facility, but that doesn???t seem particularly compelling.
Now, if they made it two way ??? or maybe they will.
Soonr or later.
