Ray’s web 2.0 business minitests: Tribe.net
by
on November 10, 2006,
A few months ago someone invited me to Tribe.net. I loved it instantly. It is so simple, has such a good user interface that anyone can make a nice profile adding photos, jpegs and very detailed Blogging information.
It targets both SIG (Same Interest Groups) users as online networkers. Tribes are in effect same interest groups, which you can create yourself or which you can search and join.
It also has a section where you can make and manage emails to others members, but sadly no IM integration yet although you can put down your Skype address in one of the fields in your profile. Here is a hyperlink containing an invitation to check it out.
It reminded me of CollectiveX, another nice portal, but CollectiveX doesn’t have the unlimited member search option Tribe.net has. I was a bit surprised that such a nice portal didn’t have more members, wasn’t better known yet.
One reason might be that I noticed that I got a lot of strange emails in my Tribe-email in-box related to shady Nigerian scams or women offering questionable services. So there is a certain level of misuse of the email-system and not nearly enough protection against it.
I also noticed that my blog was indexed very well and that the Alexa ratings for my Tribe Blog were quite good. So it also gives you some extra exposure.
SummaryNice system. If they adopt a strategy to reach out to the masses (get to more then 10 million users) and introduce e.g. a system in which you can state what your services are worth (Like Guru.com) so that networkers can also hire you, it might become a real winner. Try it out. Invest Invest…
