Psychedelic MySpace

Delta - Tech.co.nr,

When Google logos start showing up around MySpace, you know that something big is happening. It’s not just that though, MySapce has gone red! Now they’ve gone red though, it seems it’s not without glitches. An IE7 & FF2 flaw is leaving many people stranded without MySpace accounts aswell! It seems that hackers have taken control!

The glitch, flaw, hack or scam (Pick a name, any of ‘em will do!) is affecting not just MySpace users, but people around the Internet. Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 both fall fowl to the scam. What happens is that when a MySpace user’s URL “http://www.myspace.com/ScamUser”, it sees this and assumes the page is the MySapce log in, when really, it’s just an edited user profile that looks like the login page. This page has a form in which Firefox 2/Internet Explorer 7 automatically inputs your password and username, assuming that it’s a genuine MySpace login page. What it doesn’t do, is  check where the login details are sent to. That’s the snag.

Mashable reports though, that ‘what’s even more worrying is that this can be done without a visible login form: a site can hide the login form from view, and have the details automatically submitted when you click a link’. So as you can see, your details could be gone, in literally seconds, without you even realizing. It is very, very clever stuff. ‘Mozilla are working on a fix, but for now the solution is not to use the Password Manager to remember your passwords.’

Meanwhile, like I said, they appear to have gone red! If you’re a frequent user, you might have already noticed. It’s hard to miss the fact that the website has gone red! With tonnes of adverts for Project (RED) and a spiffy red background, the site looks completely different! The makeover is for one day only, but is backed by some big names. Bono included! What’s the point though? Well, (RED) aims to promote ’socially conscious buying’. Apple released their Red iPod, Motorola launched red versions of some of their phones, and the project has so far been ’supported by a “roadblock” on MTV today, which included a 90 second (RED) ad.’ Also via Mashable.

Mashable yet again tipped us off to the fact that MySpace are testing out Ad-supported search! It’s not yet complete and ready for general use, but Pete Cashmore managed to grab the logo that will be used. It looks great! It can be found at the top of the page.
