Gliffy - Free Online Diagram Program (Like Visio)

Drawing great looking diagrams, flow charts and floor plans is no longer a chore with the new free service Gliffy. Gliffy gives you the power of diagram programs such as Visio right in your browser!

If you’re not familiar with diagram programs, the concept is very simple. Drag and drop objects and/or arrows to show a plan or idea flow. The magic has been in the drag and drop part and this is where Visio and a handful of other applications have dominated the landscape. Now with Gliffy, the power of this application is in the hands of anyone with a browser.

Diagrams can be saved as a graphic (.jpg or .png) or, more importantly, can be shared over the Internet. The extra magic is through this sharing ability - project collaboration - something difficult, expensive or impossible with the other off-the-shelf applications.

I particularly enjoyed the ability to do a floor plan with real stencils of chairs, sofas, tables and plants. This of course is nothing compared to its full capabilities. Check out this full golf course design!

I’ve always been impressed with great looking presentations which have included spiffy looking diagrams. It just displays that little extra effort the presenter put into their homework. Now the chore of making those diagrams doesn’t take a long time to learn AND the ability to download or share them live on the Internet takes the application to a whole new level.
