MySpace To Offer Christmas Shopping?

According to The American Marketing Association, many top social networking sites could be losing out on billions of dollars in extra cash, by not selling products, such as gadgets and gifts through their sites. According to the association, Facebook, MySpace and other major hitting social networks are missing the possible extra profits that they could be raking in.
The association has recently released the results of a survey they conducted. 47% of American consumers said they’d use their favorite social network to ‘find and discuss holiday gift ideas’. 29% said that they would be willing to ‘buy products through those sites’. An astonishing 51% of residents in the USA said that they would most certainly look for discounts on social networks, with another 51% of people saying that ‘they’d download coupons with monetary value’. But then again, who wouldn’t? Only if it were that easy… A further 18% claimed that they would be willing to read or write product reviews. Still, 18% of the population isn’t bad at all!
People taking the survey were eligible to choose multiple answers, not just one, hence the total percentage is higher than 100%. MySpace and Facebook refused to comment on the matter, but a LinkedIn spokeswoman, Kay Luo, seemed less than enthusiastic about the prospects, stating that, “It would be a stretch to say that people are checking LinkedIn before buying gifts. However, many people list their hobbies in their profiles, which could trigger gift ideas, she says.” Wrapped up plain and simple, it’s a great idea, but nobody is quite yet sure how on earth it would work out. There’s clearly a lot of power behind the idea, but putting it into practice is an entirely different matter. Sourced from USA Today.
