Will Google Buy Plaxo?

If you use email (and who does not?), then there is a high chance that you have already received a few emails from Plaxo. With Plaxo, you can actually organize and manage your address book in an easier way. And an additional bonus is that you receive notification email whenever any of your contacts change their contact details.
It offers 2 different plans for you to choose from. If you’re convenient with the basic features, then, just go ahead with the free option. And if you think the unlimited option is what suits you better (with over 1,000 contacts and other attractive features), you can first try it for free for 30 days and only then you’ll need to pay under $50 for one year of use.
Plaxo has recently announced that their user database increased drastically during the last 6 months. And perhaps this is due to their marketing effort with America Online to integrate its contact management service with its AOL and AOL Instant Messenger products. This really turned out to be a success.
If you used Plaxo yourself, you must have noticed that it is quite hard to persuade your friends to join. Maybe it was due to the way Plaxo is distributed. It’s not personalized at all. If they want it to be fully viral, then something needs to be changed about the email customization.
And do you wonder how they make money with this free service and the premium plan? Even they themselves don’t have a clear picture of how the money will be made. I am not convinced with the plan. Perhaps the advertisements that they send along with the contact updates should be more contextual. Or they might want to start their own emailing service. Won’t that be an easier way to email your friend at the same time?
With Plaxo’s web savvy users’ database of 15M, it should be a great bargain for Google or any other party interested in acquiring them for advertising purposes. But let’s just wait and see what happens in another 6 months’ time.

Google already have their own successful email service. Still as this article indicates, Plaxo could be picked up quite cheaply.
This is a VERY interesting story to follow. Two very quiet and widely used services connected to e-mail are Plaxo and LinkedIn. A MUST watch and see…
That’s some interesting thoughts there. I think it would be a great buy for Google.
with Yahoo increasing their buyins on other sites, its time Google to get their hands on smaller ventures. I still think the Youtube was a big risk.
