Win $1,000,000 - Says The Million Dollar Homepage

The Million Dollar Homepage, created by Alex Tew, the student who made a million, has now embarked on his latest project. Pixelotto. However, after the success of The Million Dollar Homepage, many have been quick to heavily criticize Tew’s latest venture, including TechCrunch, who have called the idea ’stupid’. I wouldn’t go for that, but actually think that now, after it’s been running a week or so, will do very, very well! People appear to be very motivated on both sides of the game. Both the advertisers (in buying pixels), and the clickers (who may I add, are clicking away ferociously!). I personally do believe the website will do as well, if not better than The Million Dollar Homepage. Of course, if you’d asked somebody five years back, if you thought something like this were ever to take off, the immediate response would be that of ‘No way!’. Just shows how much times change in such a short period. But that’s the Internet for you!

Pixelotto launched on the 5th of December, and what we know so far though, is that the pixels will not cost $1 each, but $2! It’s not just another replica of the original though (hundreds of these already exist, though not made by Alex Tew), but instead, once all the pixels on the website have been sold, people will be encouraged to click on the pixel square adverts. One of the little squares will be a special square, that when clicked on, will enter you into the ‘competition’. This competition will let one lucky viewer win one million dollars all for themselves, plus the option of giving an additional $100,000 to a charity of their choice! Of course, this provides a brilliant incentive to advertisers, as they know they will be guaranteed a high click through rate, as people world wide will be clambering to the site to click on the adverts. This means that a 10×10 square will now cost you a hefty $200. Plenty of pixels have already sold out, with many more ‘black squares’ reserved.

Many major media networks have already reported Tew’s latest adventure, but again, many have been quick to criticize. To me, personally, this is a brilliant idea! What do you guys think?
