FindItAll: A New Search Tool Launched. But Is It Actually New?

Svetlana Gladkova

On Monday a new search engine for video content and images was launched. I am talking here about FindItAll developed by BigString. The press release informs us that currently FINDITALL searches content of major media content providers, including YouTube, MetaCafe, StupidVideos.com, Addicting Clips, Fandango, iFilm, Grouper, Reuters, Entertainment Weekly, Hollywood.com, MSNBC, The New York Times and DailyLOL.

FindItAll is based on an already well-known Pixsy Media Search engine. This fact determines performance of the new website and even its look. In fact, FINDITALL only differs from Pixsy in its logo and somewhat simpler navigation. It is interesting that when you search for something, even the domain name finditall.com is replaced by finditall.pixsy.com.

If we compare the tool under review to Google-powered My Mame Is Video FINDITALL looks much more impressive. It is especially worth mentioning that FINDITALL displays previews for video clips and photos – unlike My Mame Is Video which simply displays a usual list of links. At that FINDITALL has two modes of displaying the results: a thumbnail view and a list view (the thumbnail is the default mode but you can easily switch between the two views using small buttons in the search results page). Both views have their advantages and disadvantages: the thumbnail view provides a user with small previews of the images and videos while the list view is intended to bring additional information about the particular search result (such as detailed description and keywords).

Search results – thumbnail view

Search results – list view

To summarize, I could say that FINDITALL is not actually innovative. Sure, the tool is quite handy but still it virtually duplicates Pixsy. So it is not particularly clear why a user would prefer FINDITALL over Pixsy.
