Poopasnuffas - What’s In A Name?

Phil Butler,

A press release from PRWeb yesterday, announced the launch of Poopasnuffas! I know, but you just have to review something with a name like that, right? In a world bristling with corporate mergers and press release after press release, it is refreshing to see cute, low tech innovations. This is particularly true when many press releases do not own up to their claims. Well, this web site does not have a lot to live up to, and I can finally report on a little innovation that does everything it says it will.

Poopasnuffas collection of clothing took over the infant and children’s scene in late 2006. The cartoon characters for the line are designed to make kids smile, and have fun. The innovative part of the characters is really in their ability to ignite children’s imaginations. With art work by Kelly Barnett, and stories written by children about the characters, this site is a little special.

The Poopasnuffas idea is for children to write stories about their favorite characters, and to allow these kids an outlet to publish their stories. Visitors to Poopasnuffas.com are able to read the ongoing stories, and when a garment is shipped the featured character story is included. Angie Klee, who founded Poopasnuffas, said “We had a focus group of children who gave us feedback on the character art. Their ideas were more creative and brilliant than anything we could have come up with ourselves. This stroke of kid-genius has taken off in a big way.”

Slightly flawed character traits make for celebrities:

PoopooMonkey is afraid of heights!

PoopooDragon has no wings!

PoopooPuss is from planet Furball!

PoopooPooch has a wizard who foils his plans!

PoopoopPotamus (my favorite) is a rural gal lost in the big city!

The artist Kelly Barnett has been an experienced illustrator for Hallmark Cards. She said that her desire was to make people happy with these smiling, slightly goofy characters. The imperfect nature of the characters is by design, and one truly cannot stare at one of them without at least a slight laugh.

Caleb L. and Kayla W. are the storytellers this month. When Caleb grows up he wants to be a Firefighter, Hollywood Character and Costume Designer, and Artist. Caleb is 7 years old and lives in Gilbert, Arizona. Kayla is a middle school student in Bend Oregon, and has aspirations to be a Marine Biologist and Writer. She is also very fond of animals and thinks it is part of her responsibility to save them.

Poopasnuffas are currently sold in selected boutiques and at the site. Poopasnuffas uses American Apparel® t-shirts made from 100% rib and jersey cotton. American Apparel uses a “sweatshop-free” environment to produce fine garments. The goods are produced in their downtown Los Angeles factory.

This new site is certainly not the next Google, or a 21st century super computer. It does add to the web however, and anything that provides quality, fun, and interactive stuff for kids has my vote. Given the number of Poo Poo press releases we have seen lately, (or have not burdened our readers with), I think Poopasnuffas is more appropriate and fun than many. Look at this face…
