DropBoks Improved. Thought It Was Impossible?

Just a short post to make sure that all our readers have accounts in DropBoks, though I am quite sure that David Wilkinson has managed to bring you all there by his post about this extremely simple and at the same time powerful online files hosting solution.
The thing is that I have received an email from DropBoks founder Luke Stotler today about new features added. I could not resist covering it – though it does not sound really big at first. So what’s new?
Firts of all, DropBoks was converted to HTTPS (SSL): all files uploaded to DropBoks and downloaded from the system are encrypted as well as authenticated. Is there anything you value more than security speaking of online files hosting? For me it’s top priority – and that is why I am glad that security was further improved here.
Another important thing is that they have managed to solve the problems with DropBoks performance and stability. It was mentioned in the company’s blog that tons of traffic arriving soon after the release of the solution caused problems with their application servers. But the problem has been solved successfully now and our experience with DropBoks will not be saddened again.
‘Right-Click’ Menu added to help you manage the files you uploaded to your account. So now it is possible to download, delete or rename a file you have uploaded earlier by right-clicking the file and bringing up the context menu.
Another small feature added to users’ accounts is the help section hidden behind the small question mark in the upper right corner. But the section is not large: it only contains some about and contact information and FAQ of 9 questions – why would one expect to have more questions with such a simple service?
Another thing Luke drew my attention to is the fact that although everyone (including David) doubted that it was possible to support DropBoks operation without any ads based only on the voluntary donations from their users, these doubts have actually proved to be wrong: the donations keep covering their costs – and with ease. And I really think it’s great. It is so good that users are able to help the most brilliant startups live and even launch new features.
It’s funny that when you enter the DropBoks homepage today you still don’t see any difference – the website remains exactly like it was yesterday – or the day before yesterday. They don’t scream into your face that some news is here for you. They simply work – behind the scene mostly. And I am quite sure that for this type of product it is the key to success – simplicity and performance, the performance that you don’t actually pay attention to because we rarely notice it when we don’t encounter any problems.
