Pando - Two Million Yeses

Phil Butler,

New York, NY (Vocus/PRWeb ) January 6, 2007- Pando just passed the 2 million free download threshold. Pando allows users to receive and transmit huge files (up to 1gig) via email. Pando integrates with popular programs like instant messengers, RSS, blogs, and podcasts. Robert Levitan, CEO of Pando, pointed out that Pando has seen downloads of the program double in the last 4 months. According to Levitan, this increase is explained by the fact that users are posting comments on pages, besides utilizing the IM and email utilities.

The potential of the program is obvious, as users can now email or IM whole folders of digital data quickly and simply. Pando Networks has secured partnerships with Intel, Yahoo!, and Skype. Pando has also solved the email attachment problem for users of Gmail, Outlook and most other major services, so now these services are supported, too.

Pando allows Skype’s Pando Extra users to subscribe to video RSS feeds, and the Pando email plug in makes it possible for Gmail, AOL Mail, Yahoo! Mail and Outlook users to utilize its functionality. The program is also data encrypted for secure transfer for P2P sharing and all end to end applications.

I have nearly all of the email services that are mentioned in this press release, and I must say that Pando worked flawlessly with Outlook, Yahoo! IM, Yahoo! Mail, and Gmail. I did not test the others, but assume the utility is as flawless. I actually sent a folder with just over 900 meg to myself (I would not test anything on you guys), and the transfer was simple and very quick. I like simple things with great function, and this is another one of those web 2.0 gadgets you have to appreciate.

The only thing I do not like about this product is the fact that the recipient has to have Pando too. However, the user interface clearly asks if you want to use Pando or not, and there are different mode settings that make the duality unobtrusive. I know this is necessary, as any application requires operations on both ends. However, there is a sort of built in marketing that has been included in the free programs for years. I do not think the people at Pando are trying to be overly covert in this regard, I just wish there was a way to put this information up front where everything appears above board. This is a small consideration really, because the service is really worth troubling your friends to get it. That is, of course, if Pando does not clutter the little gizmo with 40 billion advertisements in the near future!
