JumpTV is Joost Up

Phil Butler,

Free ethnic programming for Joost - Phase 3 for dominating Web TV!

Well, here is some happy news from Joost! Besides clearing up a communication problem between Profy and Joost over my inbox full of requests for invitations, Joost has snagged yet another chunk of free broadcasting for you guys.

It looks like Joost had sealed a deal with yet another network to further add to Joost's impressive line up of programming. JumpTV said it is prepared to offer some of their programming to Joost for free. JumpTV is a Canadian company that has 270 channels of ethnic programming from 70 countries. Some have stated that Joost programming is not up to snuff, but considering they started with nothing in a brand new realm, It is all really an awesome network, and some of it is great by any standard. (I know, send me an invite to Joost! Kate, if you read this please send more tokens!)

Joost, which we have covered rather extensively, uses the same Internet technology that upset the music industry, and has already made deals to distribute Viacom's MTV content and Paramount movie content. Joost executives are not quiet about even more deals to follow, as the Web 2.0 innovator obviously begins to make its move on the big time.

The Skype founders Zennstrom and Friis deserve a nod of admiration for the skillful way they are manipulating this latest venture. In previous testing and reviews of Joost, my honest opinion was that Joost would be the leader in the Internet TV domain. Though I see many progressive companies working on similar technology/content, I will stick with this original assessment I think. This kind of diversity in programming could bring millions of viewers to the front door before Joost even gets out of Beta.

The quality of content and attention to detail (except for attention to my in-box full of invitation requests from readers) is top notch. Joost has put together some of the most enjoyable content availabe and is now poised to add even more for their viewers.

According to a Reuters  press release via Yahoo!, JumpTV will launch on Joost with a Spanish language version from Columbia. Strategy wise, look at how these guys are starting to wrap up the planet! It seems to me that Joost is going “whole hog” after the broadest audience they can muster, in much the same way they approached Skype. Video or online TV is a little bigger sale, but these incremental agreements are one great way of going about it. Look for the bandwagon to get longer folks.

Now, if I can just get those tokens out to my readers, I might have a chance to watch some Joost TV!
