MyStrands Offers Auto-Fill for Mobile Phones

Paul Glazowski

If you’re familiar with MyStrands, you know that its connection to PartyStrands and the online community created by the two make for an interesting mix. You definitely can enjoy an iTunes or Windows Media or Winamp existence alone, but with MyStrands you can share recommendations for albums and singles with lots of people. And we think sharing is a-okay.

Even if you’re not clubbing on the weekends at a PartyStrands-compliant venue, you get to hear what fellow “MyStranders” are listening to, and vice versa. MySpace does this in a sloppy, one-way-road kind of way, and MOG fits great for music fans who also happen to be avid bloggers, but MyStrands is focused solely on the audio side of things. That’s what makes it special, and its competitors are few.

So when MyStrands got an update on the 12th of the month, we took notice. It may have gone unnoticed by many – maybe even some of you – but the update is something that’s definitely worth a try.

The enhancement to MyStrands doesn’t have much do with the social side of the service; it just gives you a way to take your music library with you on your mobile phone quickly without having to do a thing (almost).

Yes, you can transfer music from your Windows Media Player and iTunes (with very few officially-authorized handsets) libraries directly already, but if you’ve become a fan of MyStrands, you can get rather annoyed with having to customize your mobile phone’s playlists and libraries to get what you want on there. Some people just want to shuffle their collections up and put them onto their devices.

MyStrands’ Auto Fill option will do just that. This’ll be seen as a trivial feature by many, no doubt, but the more options the better, we say. If you’re limited to a few gigs of space (we presume you’ve got miniSDs with such amounts of storage) on your phone, and have lots more content in your MyStrands library, the new Auto Fill feature will come in handy.

Disclaimer: MyStrands' AutoFill feature only works with Windows Mobile devices as of this moment. Symbian compatibility is soon to follow.

Also, make sure you don’t have anything in MyStrands that you’re not fond of. Otherwise you may not be too thrilled with the selection the program’s algorithm moves over to your device. Another way to be sure about your music collection is to be certain your MyStrands friends have good taste. Which, you know, we’re sure they do. Just sayin’.
