Alien News Vacuum Revealed! Snarfer - Changing to Suit Humans.
We review a great number of communities, startups, gadgets and other technology related to Web 2.0, but I have never really thought of reviewing something that I use to find some of this stuff. Snarfer is a friendly RSS manager that sits down there in my system tray just waiting to gobble (well actually he snorts) up news from around the world.
Snarfer is a feed aggregator that is really fast, diversified and simple to use. The little green guy gets updated with new features about once a month and allows users to do much more than just read or find articles.
A new Search Wizard was recently added to Snarfer that helps construct complex searches of items on eBay and Craigslist. The searches automatically tent and update every time the feed does. Snarfer also added Bloglines synchronization so that users can access and update Snarfer and Bloglines from any location with a browser.
Some other new features of Snarfer include:
Newspaper (river of news) View - Single or folder preview of multiple messages
Embedded Video Support - Supports Google, Bloglines, embedded browser and more.
Expanded Right Click Menu - Quicker access to functions via cursor placement.
Search
Searching with Snarfer is simple because the search tool bar is located perfectly and keyword watches allows filtering of incoming messages into custom folders. Snarfer search can perform Web search via Blogdigger, Bloglines, Blogpulse, Google, MSN and Sphere among others.
Management
After compiling a dozen or more searches it is helpful to be able to organize them. Snarfer users can configure the folder tree to organize feeds any way they need them. A drag and drop function makes saving or organizing messages really simple and Snarfer also helps keep your data cleaned up automatically. This aspect is particularly good for absent minded types like me.
Snarfer is not just a cute news vacuum cleaner but a powerful tool for aggregating and managing feeds and data. Snarfer users can also share articles via email or with OPML files. Personally, I tend to take the little sucker for granted, but this is a really essential Web 2.0 tool for getting the latest news and articles fast and being able to manipulate them effectively.
Secretly I think Snarfer may actually be from another planet because it really just works too well to be from here. He does look a little “out-world-ish” too, but no need to hurt his feelings.
