Picli - Digg for Photos?
by

Many Digg users are frustrated with photos submitted to Digg, calling instead for a separate Digg just for photographs in order to free up more space for articles in the Digg hierarchy. They may already have their wish in Picli, a photo-sharing site with a Digg-like rating system that just opened up for public beta.
Picli users can upload photos from their hard-drive or other photo-sharing service, linking to their own photos or ones that they find online that they feel are worth sharing. At the moment, only one option is available for media type, but future releases will include divisions for photography, computer graphics, and “natural media.”
At the present time, two galleries are available: the Showcase for images that are highly rated, and Upcoming, for recently submitted content. You can rate images, leave comments, and submit them to Digg, which I suppose might defeat the purpose of having a separate image rating site. Photographers can set up galleries, similar to Flickr, but at least at the moment, there isn't much information allowed in a personal profile. The functionality in the “My Gallery” feature is also bare-bones at the moment, leaving users unable to edit their image information or view statistics on their images. The only options right now on the site are to upload and delete photos, rate them, and comment on them.
I think that Picli has a lot of potential, especially if Digg users who are tired of images hitting the top-rated lists migrate over to Picli as an alternative. However, with the current lack of features and more social networking like Flickr and other photo-sharing sites, it's a one-trick pony that requires photographers to use more than one site. The more functionality you can provide users, the more likely they are to move their photos over to your site, and right now, Picli just doesn't have that allure.

It’s a good idea, specially for photographer sites and media sites. I never liked to see videos and images at digg, i hope that picli will have the success that they hope.
Jonix, I agree. I like what I see so far, and would really love to see it more with some increased functionality.
My husband is a photographer and tends to stay with Flickr all the time. He was a bit skeptical when I used some of his shots to set up the account to play with the site, but got hooked fairly quickly. I’m hoping others will do the same.

This will change the world
I follow what Joshua Porter is doing, and I think he nailed it, personal value must preced network value. In this case, Facebook has 0 value if you don’t added friends yet. zero. nada.
