Placebo Using Motionbox to Create Collaborative Music Video

Taking collaboration to the next level, the band Placebo is using video-sharing site Motionbox to create their latest music video for release in US markets. The promotion, called Placebo Starring You, provides fans of the group with an instrumental version of their latest single, Running Up That Hill, as well as lyrics. Fans can then create a video of themselves singing the song along with the music and upload it to Motionbox for possible inclusion in the video.
The deadline for submitting videos is 13 April 2007, and all entrants will receive a link to the final video once it's been edited. The group's plan is to have a montage of fans singing the song themselves, and claim to not care whether fans can sing or not, although they aren't looking for lip syncing. The group's lead singer, Brian Molko, will make the final decisions for which fans' videos are included in the group's final video for the single. This is a great opportunity to get the fans involved in one of our videos, and says, "Knowing our fans, as visually diverse as they are, we expect some very creative feedback. (It) could make very interesting viewing and we look forward to it."
Motionbox is a video sharing site much like YouTube, where users can upload videos, then share them, tag them, and send them as video cards. Where Motionbox is unique, however, is in the video editor, much like those you find in video creation software. You can tag individual parts of your videos, and if a user's video is set up as editable, include clips from other users' videos in your own clips.
