AirTroductions.com - There’s Something in the Air

killerStartups.com

AirTroductions is an interesting concept. Basically, you enter in your flight information and check out who else is going to be on your flight. Then, after checking out the other passengers’ profiles, you choose who you’ll be sitting next to. That way, you can make the most of your multi-hour flight.
You can network, or maybe meet a love connection, or sit next to someone you just happen to know and didn’t know they’d be on the plane. So next [...]

Twitterific Or Twitterrible?

Paul Glazowski

There?s Twitter. There?s Radar. There?s Jaiku. And there must be a great many other much smaller, less noted services of the same vein. What vein? Mobile social networking. Or is it the publication of various streams of consciousness for all to see? Actually, when you really get down to it, all of the above are outlets made to allow a lot of people to talk about themselves to a lot of other people in an incoherent and entirely meaningless way. [...]

Mozy Online Storage Utility Debuts For The Mac

Paul Glazowski

Though the name could really do with some changing, Berkley Data Systems’ online backup utility, called Mozy, has had its long-awaited debut for the Mac platform. Now fans of the O, the S, and the X have access to limitless space – redundant, to boot - for a whopping US$4.95. When I say Mac, you say Mozy! Mac! — (Listens. Silence.)
Why in the world would you want to backup your files? I mean, heck, how important can those hundreds, even [...]

Running To Catch Baidu In China

Phil Butler

Just who are Google, AOL and Yahoo! chasing in China anyway? Let's take a look at China's top search engine Baidu.com and see who is making all the ad dollars in China right now.
It seems like every day I have the opportunity to report on either a Google blunder in the international market, or some move by AOL or Yahoo! towards capturing a market somewhere. Baidu just reported their first quarter revenue of 35.6 million dollars, up over 100 percent [...]

Lessig And 75 Others Ask For Fair-Use Presidential Debate Footage

Paul Glazowski

Lawrence Lessig is at the pulpit again, and he’s talking about fair use, again. Which is great. Everyone wants fair use. (Except, you know, some media companies who'll remain unnamed here.) But Lessig’s talking politics, too.
He’d like to see recorded presidential debates be made available for presentation, and even “remixing”, on the Web. Can’t say I don’t agree.
Whether or not the presidential debates scheduled this year and the next (the first with all Democratic hopefuls in attendance occurred [...]
