YourStreet.com – Neighborhood Profiles and Free Local Real Estate Info
April 13, 2007 |
YourStreet is a great tool for buyers, renters, or anyone else interested in real estate and what different areas of the country have to offer. There is information on how the market is currently for the different cities, has aggregated feeds from various news sources on those areas, you can read tips and comments from people who are from the area or having something to share, and a lot more. Currently, there are only five cities available to check out (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Phoenix), but by the end of the year they hope to have the nation’s top 50 metro areas set up.
Each city comes complete with an overview, maps, pictures from the area via Flickr, and information broken down by neighborhoods and nearby areas. You can even check out neighborhood stats like the racial diversity found in the area. If you live in that neighborhood, you can find information on cool places to eat or fun things going on in the city. This is a great resource for anyone who’s trying to figure out where they want to move and what neighborhood fits what they’re looking for.
In their own words: "YourStreet is a different kind of real estate website. Instead of reams of house listings you'll find a vibrant community of homebuyers, sellers, enthusiasts, and real estate professionals all contributing valuable perspectives about local markets around the country. YourStreet harnesses the knowledge of thousands of local people like you to increase the transparency and efficiency of the real estate market. Based on the premise that all real estate is local, YourStreet creates a platform for individuals to share market information on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis". no Orlando yet. Seems like a good idea, I just hope they add more content soon.
Well, they promise more stuff by the end of the year.
Personally, I think web 2.0 needs to migrate to the local field because the demand in this field is much higher than in the general video sharing or social networking – while we see dozens of startups in these general fields weekly and we rarely see any local projects at all.
