BuyYourFriendADrink.com - When You Can’t Be There
by

BuyYourFriendADrink explains itself with its name. Basically, when you can’t make it to where your friend is celebrating, you can send them a gift of a drink coupon for them to redeem at one of their favorite local bars.
It’s a pretty cool idea that will definitely be great for people to show that they are thinking of the other person from a far. Currently it’s only available in a few cities in NY and one in NJ, but the site is expanding.
In their own words: “BuyYourFriendADrink.com was founded as a way to celebrate with others when you can’t be there in person. Whether you want to celebrate a special event or congratulate a colleague on a job well done, BuyYourFriendADrink.com is an easy way of giving a gift. Because hey…who doesn’t like it when someone ‘buys them a round’?” Find out why it might be a killer and vote for this startup at KillerStartups.com.

Just wanted to point out that there is already a great startup who has been doing something similar for about a year and a half now, and they are already partnered with many national (i.e. not just NY/NJ) restaurant chains: http://www.yougotbeer.com/
Steve, thanks for the comment, I never heard of this service before. I can only wonder why would one want to launch an absolutely similar project, how are they going to compete?
But anyway I can say that I like the look and feel of the new website much better than those of the earlier one - it somehow looks cleaner and seducing to give it a try. So I think it has a chance to actually win in the competition if they sign enough partnerships with bars and if not all the market is taken by the yougotbeer.com yet.
