WebAppSale - The Marketplace for Web Apps and Widgets

News Corp. bought Myspace two years ago for $580 million. Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion less than a year ago. Yahoo! offered $1 billion for Facebook, but was ultimately turned down. Even the domain name Vodka.com was sold for $3 million last year. What exactly am I trying to get at here? The fact that there is a lot of money to be made on the internet through the sale of web services and domain names. Perhaps that is even what spurred the raging growth of what we now know as web 2.0.
The creators of a new service known as WebAppSale have taken note of this phenomenon and have come up with an idea of their own. It is a marketplace for the sale of web apps, widgets, websites and domain names. This new service was launched last week, and is aiming to provide a central place for buyers and sellers to find exactly what they are looking for.
WebAppSale, run by TRG Classified Ventures Ltd., is powered by edgeio, the classified board marketplace that allows anyone to set up their own classifieds board. The interface is as simple as it gets, with very few options. Once you visit the site, you see the listings already available, which will be the most recent, I am assuming.
Visitors can easily keep track and stay up-to-date on the latest listing on the site by subscribing to the RSS feed, a nice addition. Also, website owners and bloggers can become an affiliate and earn revenue from the service by linking to and driving traffic to the board, although I am not sure what the payout is, or even if this option has been activated by the site administrators. If they haven't opened their affiliate program, perhaps that is an option they should consider, as blogging is probably the best way to promote a service like this and a little extra revenue could entice plenty of bloggers.
Considering the fact that a listing on the site is free - at least currently - it seems like a good start for anyone who is trying to sell their website, domain or online service. As for buyers, you may want to wait a while to look around to make a purchase here, since there were only two listings on the site at the time this article was written, which is expected since it is still in its infant stage.
If you are trying to sell a web app, widget, website or domain name you still need to make sure that your property is actually valuable and useful enough for someone to want to purchase it. WebAppSale does, however, give you one more way to both attract a wider audience to what you have to offer and let the world know that you are interested in selling.
Now, all the makers of WebAppSale have to do is encourage enough people to add their listings to make it a place where potential purchasers will actually go to look for something to buy.
