Box.net Creates Remote Storage Site For iPhone Users

Are you one of the million or so iPhone owners out there? Are you consistently feeling a little short on storage? If so, Box.net has a snazzy solution that’ll work quite phenomenally through the device’s Safari Internet browser.
First, one very big particular that you might like to know about:
If you’ve ever used Box.net or know what the service is comprised of, you know that through traditional interaction with its website (via a PC or Mac loaded a full-fledged Web browser) one is able to both upload and download items placed on the company’s servers. Not so with the iPhone. As one is unable to download any file whatsoever to the device, you won’t be able to take those files from remote storage and have them available locally. Not through a mobile connection, anyhow.
But that shouldn’t be much of an issues, considering how much more powerful Safari on iPhone is than the average mobile Web browser. (The most modern version of Opera Mobile is somewhat of an exception, but it’s still not quite on par with Apple’s software.)
Yes, it’s true. Most of the things that can be viewed remotely through a browser installed on the Windows or Mac OS X operating systems can be viewed on the iPhone. (We certainly suggest iPhone owners connect with a WiFi hotspot before attempting to transfer any large amounts of data.)
Have some JPGs stored on Box.net? View them on your iPhone. How about a PDF? No problem. Box.net is even working to get music and video files to play back on the iPhone. When updates to the service’s code is complete, the iPhone will be capable of doing absolutely everything Box.net allows its regular everyday users to do. And that’s, well…frickin’ awesome.
If you’d like to view a real-time demonstration of interaction with Box.net on an iPhone, head on over to Viddler, where Webware’s Josh Lowensohn has uploaded a video in which he spends a minute perusing a folder using the service. If you’d like to use Box.net on your iPhone right away (we’re talking to you, winners of Profy’s iPhone contest/competition!) head on over to ‘http://i.box.net’.
