Gizmo Project Releases VoIP and IM Solution for BlackBerry

As amazing and as newsworthy as the iPhone might seem to be, it?s got a long way to go before it really makes itself at home in the land of ubiquity. In fact, in terms of sheer numbers, the Apple device doesn?t hold a candle to the long-reigning king of the smartphone world, the BlackBerry, in all its various iterations.
So when the blogosphere talks of the debut of cool new Web 2.0 mobile-specific sites, should we by default talk of the iPhone as the platform upon which this plethora (and a fast-growing one, at that) of apps and such operate, almost exclusively?
Who knows. Maybe. What?s for sure is that the iPhone isn?t the only player in the smartphone game, and it seems just as relevant to talk of new releases that operate on multiple devices as those that play by Cupertino?s rules. So, without further adieu, we bring you word of the release of Gizmo ? a relatively popular VoIP/IM client of the Skype vein - for all you QWERTY crazies out there on them all-powerful ?Berries.
We do realize that cellular networks (at least those in the US) don?t like to play in the same sandbox as VoIP software providers, but as mobile data rates get cheaper and mobile software solutions ? both handset- and Web-based ? increase in number, it only makes sense that more subscribers look to make the most of their phones? powers. And adding an IM/VoIP client to one?s personal roster seems almost natural to do. And, if we?re to be technical about it, wireless networks do allow users the convenience of mobile instant messaging, so Gizmo, on the whole, is okay to have on the go.
As for Gizmo for Mobile?s specific capabilities, one is able to maintain text-based conversations with friends, family and colleague on numerous IM networks, including Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, and of course, Gizmo. VoIP connections are free to other Gizmo users, while calls made to true phone lines, either landline or mobile, will require the purchase of some credits. Doing so may save you some cash compared to overage charges levied by your mobile service provider, but if that service provider is finicky about how you use your ?unlimited? data plan, you might, when all?s said and done, be spending more than is necessary. So proceed with caution, m?kay?
