Apple Slated To Launch Web App Directory

Update: Apple has launched its Web app directory.
This story’s still doing the rounds over at the proverbial rumor mill, but we all know it’s coming, so we thought we’d jump on the ol’ bandwagon as many others in Blog Land have already and bring you the news:
Apple’s gonna be launching a Web app directory! For iPhone users! … Yeah!
Hmm, this story seemed exciting just a few hours ago. Yet now the buzz seems to have all but died. It’s been lost in the continual grind of the global blogger complex. It’s been - yikes! – ignored.
Which, frankly, is fine by me, because, well, there most certainly are more pressing matters in the world of tech to discuss and dissect. For example, we have the bit of news about AT&T’s underhanded purchase of a slice of the 700MHz spectrum, gleaned from some group known as Aloha Partners, for a hefty $2.5bn. (I’ll parse through some of the pieces that story later today, in fact.) Or just how fantastic a publication we have here at Profy.com. Super fantastic? Or uber fantastic? Tough call, I know. See, these are the topics that really need addressing. Not some, you know, list, even one blessed by The Stevester.
Okay, so just to run by the factoids of Apple’s iPhone-friendly Web app directory. The company’s allegedly putting the final touches on the thing, and, according to a piece on the matter published by AppleInsider, it may well be released, uh, yesterday.
Alright, well, clearly it wasn’t brought to the public before the clock struck twelve on the evening of the 10th, but it’ll probably have its launch sometime soon. Maybe by the weekend. I don’t know.
Who gives, anyway? Let it be known that Apple’s not the first to the gate in delivering a comprehensive Web app directory with a focus on the almighty iPhone. Here’s one. It’s kind of half blog, half directory, which is kind of convenient, if you care to know anything about an app before you try it out for yourself. Here’s another. It’s kind of ugly, but it does the trick, more or less. And here’s the prettiest one I could find. It’s not as straightforward to browse as one would think, but at least you can occupy yourself with some eye candy while you get comfy with it.
Trawl Google (or your engine of choice) for others if you wish. You’ll find a good number of ‘em, I’m sure.
Of course, none will likely give you the oh-so-sexy experience Apple affords you with its tasteful designs, so if you want prettiest and slickest, you’ll have to wait. Patience, child. Father Jobs is close to giving the OK. At least I presume so….
