World Google Stats for Sex, Nazi, Gay, Viagra etc!
October 17, 2007 |
Apparently, we are all being observed under a series of magnifying glasses for various purposes. Have you ever wondered if other people search for the same things you do? Statistics from Google (who else) reveal some interesting facts about the world's search habits.
As it turns out – Egypt, India and Turkey are at the top of the list for the term sex for Google searches there. The stats are actually quite interesting and even disturbing.
What conclusions we draw from all this data is up to some new breed of “Search Psychologists” I suppose, but let's just take a look at some of the stats.
Searches for terms:
Hitler - Germany, Mexico (?) and Austria
Nazi - Chile, Australia and the USA
Gay – Chile, Mexico and Columbia (who won for searching Gay Nazi)
Jihad – Morocco, Indonesia and Pakistan
Terrorism – Pakistan, Philippines and Australia
Hangover – Ireland, United Kingdom and of course the USA (this is a no brainer)
Burrito – USA, Argentina and Canada
Iraq – USA, Australia and Canada
Taliban – Pakistan, Australia and Canada (looks like USA figured out who they are)
Tom Cruise – Canada, USA and Australia
Britney Spears – Mexico, Venezuela and Canada (wow, we must not care about her any more)
Love – Phillipines, Australia and USA (it looks like the Philippines have a love-terror thing)
Viagra – Italy, United Kingdom and Germany (could be links to ED from booze for UK)
Marijuana – Canada, USA and Australia
Kate Moss – Ireland, United Kingdom and Sweden (hmm!)
Analysis
Well I don't have me semantic AI key to hakia yet so I will have to wing this one. A couple of things seem fairly obvious from these queries. First and foremost the USA does not lead in much of anything any more and now we only lead in searching for Iraq and burritos, with a decent showing for the magic weed. Australia seems to just kind of hang with us except they still have not figured out who the Taliban is. Though Egypt, India and Turkey seek out sex – uh, I mean look for sex – oh, uh search for sex – well, you know what I mean; Italy, the UK and Germany are most interested in Viagra (what does all this mean?). I can understand the UK and Viagra because the UK is constantly searching for hangover cures. Ireland is the simplest variable to decipher – they simply want Kate Moss and when they can't have her they drink like the bejesus.
Conclusions
There simply has to be some Web 2.0 correlative link to all these queries and rankings? One thing can be deduced (at least theorized), we can make a case that Mexico might appreciate a Britney Spears with a mustache, wearing a swastika and some of those Gestapo boots kissing her girlfriend. While here in the U.S. we would be content to just toast up a burrito, think of how the Nazis would have handled Iraq, roll up a “fat one” and watch Mission Impossible. In any event, statistics like this are fun to play with and my thanks goes out to Reuters for reporting on this. Ireland is a tiny, tiny country – how did they out search everyone in the world for hangover and Kate Moss?
Madonna actually has on the Gestapo boots!
