MeVu Wants To Be Your Home On The Web

As a web 2.0 blogger, I have experienced first-hand how stressful and time-consuming it can be to keep up with accounts at various services all around the web. Each and every week, it never fails that I find some new service that seems interesting and worthwhile.
So, what is the best way to keep track of all these communities and the best way to let others know where they can find you on the internet?
Well, MeVu is a new service (launched in early October) aiming to be just the solution. It is designed to be a central webpage where users can provide all of their useful information and links to any and every web service they may use. "Let your friends know where you live on the internet," as their slogan states.
The best part about MeVu is that users have control over the creation and arrangement of their profile. After registering, users are taken to their account, where categories and links can be freely added. There are no default categories or links included, so this process is entirely open to the discretion of the profile owner as to what to include. Each category must be manually added (with custom names, such as 'Social Networks' or 'My Blogs'), with each link posted being assigned to a specific category in any order desired. The categories are then separated into boxes, in an easy-on-the-eyes format on the public profile.
Since launching, several new features have made their way into MeVu to offer even more options. Among the new features are a secure contact form (which keeps the user's email address private), an 'About Me' field in profiles, and the option to include a feed link alongside any link added to a profile. Visitors can preview and subscribe to provided RSS feeds in a pop up window, right from MeVu.
Additionally, the ability for MeVu members to set their own meta tags for their profile (title, description, and keywords), combined with internal changes to the service, should help improve search rankings of MeVu profiles. Users who make "good use" of their MeVu page could potentially be featured on the home page as well.
Conclusion
Overall, MeVu is a simple service that earns praise for giving users complete control. It would, however, be nice to see some themes or color options for users to choose from to further personalize profiles. Also, it wouldn't hurt to offer users various layouts, rather than just one single-column option. Better yet, how about letting users embed widgets from other web services.
Other similar services include SocialThing, Profile Builder, PeekYou, and, to a degree, the people search engines Spock and Wink.
I have been informed that more enhancements and features are already in progress, so expect a lot more to come from this social 'aggregation' tool. The next update for MeVu should happen within the next 2 to 3 weeks.
