A Tale Of Modern Love

A guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do.
Call it a crowdsourcing success; call it a nifty (and perhaps very lucky) use of Net-tastic technology. When 21-year-old Patrick Moberg (an employee of the Web video company, Vimeo, no less) spotted someone who he thought was his love-to-be on a crowded New York City subway train, and managed to let her – blue shorts, blue tights, red flower and all – slip away un-addressed into above-ground anonymity, he did what many people would ordinarily not do: pursue. More specifically, pursue via the Web.
Yes, yes, it’s well known how online listing services - Craigslist being the most popular of them all - are consulted often today for “lost connections” had by strangers in public settings, but also true is the miniscule number which manage to meet again. Patrick Moberg can now count himself among the fortunate few.
Shortly after the spontaneous yet unfulfilled encounter, Moberg established a website, complete with a sketch representation of the elusive lass, in the hope of finding “the girl of his dreams”. The site, dubbed appropriately enough, ‘nygirlofmydreams.com’ (which now seems to be down), quickly attracted a great deal of attention - of course, very likely due in part to his rather convenient affiliation with Vimeo.
Mr Moberg, speaking to the press earlier this week, said he received a great number of email messages (and phone calls), one of which, received the evening of November 7th, stood out from the rest.
It was sent by way of a friend of the woman, now identified as a Ms Camille Hayton, and after confirmation that she was who the associate claimed her to be (by way of a digital snapshot), the two managed to formally introduce themselves earlier this week. Public notice of the re-connection was posted by Moberg on his site, concisely stating: “Found her! Seriously!”
And, very fittingly, just as quickly as the site went up, the curtain on the matter closed. Moberg proceeded to erase his contact information from the temporary website, and directed all calls to an automated message system, saying “he will do no more interviews.”
That’s modern love, for ya. Here’s to hoping this second chance remains a rather permanent one, eh?
