Merry Christmas, Web 2.0 World

Svetlana Gladkova,

Merry ChristmasProfy has been in this exciting and crowded world of Web 2.0 for over a year now and every single moment of this period has been absolutely gorgeous. We have had lots of things to report on and lots of accomplishments to celebrate. And we have also learned lots of things - things about blogging, technology, and communications. But one thing that I know for sure now is that web 2.0 is not actually about technology, money, standards and innovation. It is all about people - people that make this all happen. People that keep making the web 2.0 moving, that make it a busy space interesting to work and live in. And the best thing is that web 2.0 brings the people closer.

It does not matter where you live (I for one live in Novosibirsk, Russia which is pretty far from the Silicon Valley where I have the most of my LinkedIn of Facebook contacts), what time zone you are in or even what your job is - you can always be a valuable member of this crowd. And it is often incredibly funny how actually small this web 2.0 crowd is: whenever you shake hands with anyone at any web conference, you know for sure that you have at least a dozen of mutual friends and acquaintances. It is always amazing when you think of it. I know that to some of my online friends I talk much more online than to my real-life friends. And these people that may never have even talked to me on the phone invariably offer a helping hand when I need something - a piece of advice, a recommendation, an introduction or even an official invitation when one needs a Schengen visa (yes, this is thank you, Mister Wong team).

That is why now when the year approaches its end and we all are getting ready to celebrate Christmas, I want to send my warmest wishes to everyone in this web 2.0 world: to our Profy readers (and a special virtual hug goes to a loyal reader I don't even know name of that visits Profy daily from a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean - all alone amid the ocean on our visitors map), to all the bloggers creating those tons of content daily that make sleep an inexcusable luxury when you still have hundreds of new posts to consume, to all the people that work 24 hours a day to make the wildest ideas come true and become something we can not live without any single day (Twitter, Facebook, Zoho, Ziki - the list can continue on and on and I'm sure any of you can add dozens of names here). My warmest wishes go to all the people that are now sitting in front of their computers reading this post instead of getting ready for the family get-together on the Christmas Eve. I do know that we are difficult to live with so tell your wife (or husband) that a web 2.0 girl from Siberia wishes them a very bright and happy Christmas with the beloved ones actually looking into their eyes (we have to admit it, they see the backs of our heads when we face the computers much more often than our faces). So let's have some real-life celebration now and then move on to the new exciting perspectives. Merry Christmas everyone on behalf of the entire Profy team!
