Blogged Wants To Help You Find Better Blogs

As a newly launched directory of blogs, Blogged.com is aiming to not only provide visitors with links to thousands of interesting blogs, but to be a “blog discovery and exploration tool supported by a network that connects bloggers with readers.” Having just publicly launched two days ago (February 25, 2008) the database of more than 200,000 blogs of various categories is already impressive in size.
Where most blog search tools use tags and keywords to find individual posts within blogs, Blogged focuses on using the same elements to return search results for entire blogs rather than posts. For an example, doing a Google blog search for 'Britney Spears' will return posts within blogs containing her name, whereas a Blogged.com 'Britney Spears' search would return results for whole blogs that focus on the pop star. As with all tradtional directories, visitors can also browse by category and sub-category, with the ability to sort results by user rating, editor rating, or popularity.
“Blogged.com allows people to discover new blogs and provide feedback on the blogs they care about. As the number of blogs increases on the Internet, it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish and identify the best blogs,” stated Blogged.com co-founder, Kenneth Yeh. ” We’re excited to offer users a fast, easy way to discover high quality content in the ever evolving blogosphere without spending a lot of effort.”
Each blog added to the Blogged directory received an overview page intended to provide a glimpse of the description/contents of that particular blog, it's user and editor rankings, links to related blogs, and brief summaries of the most recent posts which link to the full post. User's wanting to stay updated on a certain blog's content also have the ability to subscribe to the RSS feed that the service automatically generates for each blog's recent posts, without having to visit the blog's homepage.
The site's design is simple and straightforward, making it easy for anyone to start using the directory right away, even if not a registered user yet. Becoming a registered user though, of course, has its perks. Members of Blogged can create a profile that then keeps a listing of their reviews, favorite blogs, shared blogs, friends, and comments.
With more than 100 categories spanning several topics, any blogger should be able to find a category to call home for even the most niche-oriented blog. Though not quite as social as BlogCatalog or MyBlogLog, Blogged.com has its differences that help it stand apart from existing blog directories and is worth a look for both those looking to discover new blogs to read as well as those looking to discover new readers for their blog.
