Web 2.0 Expo So Far

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira,

Web 2.0 Expo logo imageIt's been absolutely insanely busy here at Web 2.0 Expo. It's great getting to meet so many people and showing them the Profy platform, but I'm also a little bit bummed I haven't been able to get around to more booths and attend more sessions. It's like Disneyland here: too much to do in four days to see and experience it all!

There've been some highlights so far. Twitter has definitely established itself as the go-to place for conferences, and I've found I've developed the Valley habit of walking with my phone out in front of me checking Twitter. The addition of Fireball has turned my phone into a Magic 8-Ball; "What Would Twitter Do?" is the new mantra for figuring out where people are. I'm actually kind of glad it won't work for me back home.

I got to meet Louis Gray yesterday and talk to him about the blogosphere as well as the Profy platform. I'll confess that in person I liked him better than I did online, proof that all the social networking in the world doesn't always give you a good handle on people. And I'm now a devout subscriber in exchange for a rockin' pen from his day job, my first piece of true booth swag here at the conference. He also wrote a great write-up of the Profy platform with some good feedback. I didn't get to meet the folks from Ubergizmo, but they also covered the launch yesterday, as well as Triston McIntyre from TECH.BLORGE. It's been encouraging to see such great feedback!

I did get to meet one of the guys from Atlassian, , Adnan Chowhury, who assure me that Mike Cannon-Brookes is a real person and not just a figment of my imagination. It's amazing how different countries have such wildly differing cultures, and he assure me that Australia has not subscribed to the weirdness of online dating sites as the U.S. has. I wish I could find the card of the woman we were talking to about it, who does a pod cast about the horrors of online dating.

I got to meet folks from CoComment, including Eric Lehr, as well as Kin Lane from Altrec who is doing something very interesting with GreatOutdoors.com that I'm going to take a better look at once I get back home.

I'll be sure to post more updates. I'm really hoping to get a break in the action today and at least attend the Disney talk. If they are talking about the Disney Fairies onilne community and I don't go, I fear my daughter will never forgive me.
