Twitter Can Help You Remember The Milk Now

Leslie Poston,

remember the milk now with more twitterWe wrote about handy tool Remember the Milk when it first came out, and both Remember the Milk and Twitter have been popping up in social media news individually since then. Now we are happy to write that two of our favorite web tools will be able to work together to improve your productivity and help you with that short term memory problem so many of us share.

This news comes hot on the heels of other tools, like Kwiry, that have recently offered ways to use Twitter to jog your memory about every day tasks and reminders, or IMIfied for bringing your to-do list, Google Calendar and Twitter/IM together. The main difference is that Remember the Milk is a bit more comprehensive that newcomer Kwiry or IM based IMIfied.

The interface for Remember the Milk is Twitter is simple. All you have to do is follow @rtm and fill out a simple sign up box on the Remember the milk web site, found here, to communicate with your task list using Twitter. Now you can handle both addictions at once via direct message.

Once you have filled out the simple sign up form so that Remember the Milk “knows” who you are on Twitter, and followed @rtm, you can begin to use your new tool. If you follow some of the heavy tweeters like Pistachio at all, you have already heard about Remember the Milk being used via Twitter. It is a handy tool to keep up with a busy schedule.

How does it work? Just like with other applications, like Kwiry, you simply send a direct message to @rtm (d rtm get milk on way home) and it automatically adds the task to your list. You can also access it in reverse, asking Remember the Milk to send you direct messages with reminders of tasks as needed.

I am always in need of new ways to corral my tendency toward absentmindedness and align it with my very full to-do list and hectic schedule. Perhaps the new Remember the Milk Twitter application is the way to go. If you are using it and liking it, let me know about your experience in the comments.

RTM and Twitter work really well together, but I would hardly call this “new”. RTM has worked with Twitter for almost a year now: http://blog.rememberthemilk.com/2007/07/twitter-your-tasks.html

It is the true back and forth that is new. :)

Maybe I’m missing something then? They launched the feature with the ability to add via Twitter and the ability to get reminders via Twitter.

Yeah, it has been 2 ways for at least a year now.

I was using it on a regular basis with a slick setup I had using an application launcher. Twitter went down and ruined the whole thing. I’m working on a work-around :)

You can read about that setup on my blog.

I’m happy a select few had this functionality sooner rather than later. For the rest of us, we’re finally enjoying it now.

Actually, one of the best benefits I found with being able to access RTM via Twitter is that you can talk to RTM via SMS. You don’t even have to be at your computer to quickly add an Item to your TODO list or view a list/smart list/tag you’ve already created.

This has proved invaluable when I’m out and about. “d rtm !gt @errands” would tell me what I’m supposed to be buying while I’m out, for instance.
