Task2Gather – New Task and Project Management Solution Launched Today

Svetlana Gladkova,

Task2Gather project management solution logoToday Task2Gather, a new task management solution, debuts and promises to make the entire process of managing projects and handling tasks within projects dead simple - both for project managers and for those that work on the projects themselves. Moreover, the approach the solution offers makes no difference if you act as a project manager of a large-scale software development project with dozens of people working on it or if the project you manage is actually your Sunday shopping with your wife - in both cases you will achieve the goals equally well without any learning process involved.

The application is launched by a Russian company VITO Technology that is rather successful in building applications for Windows Mobile and Symbian devices that make use of touch screen devices a very similar experience to use of an iPhone - even if you don't own one. The company has already sold 150,000 licenses for its applications and is profitable to the extent that it can afford investing in the new fields. And web 2.0 is definitely a new field for them given the company's vast experience on the mobile software market.

My conversation with the guys from VITO made me understand how the idea for Task2Gather emerged: they simply felt their own work needed to be organized better and could not find a simple yet powerful solution that could improve the workflow in the company and at the same time eliminate the learning curve that is often the case with many complex project management solutions. So they decided that since they could not find the solution they needed they should build it themselves.

Sure, their lack of experience with Web 2.0 products and applications is visible in the over-simplistic interface of the website homepage but after all, when it comes to project management, what matters is that the application ensures that the process is efficient. And even if the homepage of the site may contain much more text than we are accustomed to see, the interface of the application itself is very familiar to anyone who ever dealt with any task and project management solutions. Besides, the learning curve is definitely eliminated by useful notes for new users to understand exactly where to start and where to click next.

So basically, Task2Gather is a very simple tool to create projects and tasks within these projects, manage and share tasks. The ultimate goal is to make process management reliable, efficient and at the same time easy - no matter it is a wedding planning or a workflow in a medium-sized company. The tasks are easily created, shared with friends, family or colleagues by email, those in charge of every task are assigned and the work begins. In the near future the company promises to launch applications for iPhone and Windows Mobile - and I happen to believe that with their experience in building mobile applications it is something we should expect to be good and reliable as well.

In addition to the service being fully independent financially since it only depends on the revenue stream the company already has from their profitable mobile applications, the solution also promises to have a revenue potential for itself in the future - in addition to mobile applications that will support the service the company also plans to add premium features (in the range of under $10 per month, I am told) for premium features, including RSS subscription to updates related to projects or tasks, upload of files to attach them to tasks, improved security and generation of reports for project managers. But for a basic user who only wants to handle day-to-day tasks like shopping or planning family events the current free version seems to be absolutely enough.

I am not sure if the world really needs another project or task management solution - online or offline. But I do like the idea of making the process absolutely simple and intuitive for any type of user to understand it without efforts, especially since I myself use any project and tasks management solutions only when I am made to - while I know that adding some order to my workflow would be a good thing to do.
