Experience Project Raises Funds for Non-Profits When You Play Trivia Games

Svetlana Gladkova,

Experience Project community logoIf there is one case when a pitch I receive will invariably result in a blog post on Profy, it is when I see words “green”, “environment”, “sustainable”, “non-profit” and the likes. It is just that I feel we often tend to ignore or just give less coverage than deserved to some of the most important online projects that can actually bring real-life results important to a lot of people. The latest examples that got coverage on Profy in this way were EcoFlip, a green classifieds site, and fundraising project SocialVibe.

Today we have yet another project of this type: Experience Project, the social experience sharing community, has introduced its idea to raise funds for non-profits by involving their users in answering questions in trivia games. The games are ad-supported and 100% of the revenue generated will go to the non-profit. For you it means that you donate funds to non-profit organizations without actually paying money out of your own pocket.

Unfortunately the ads I have seen on the site are from Google AdSense program which means that users will have to click them for the project to raise any money at all. And since the users must be focused on clicking the correct answers, this will probably not work. So I believe a better choice here should be either CPM ads from some ad network or direct sponsorship. But hopefully since the project is still at the very early stage this will be addressed soon.

For the idea to work, Experience Project partners with various non-profits for them to raise funds when you play the games. The site launched with one non-profit involved and the first cause supported is to feed and provide shelter to homeless animals. In the future the site owners promise to add further causes by partnering with other non-profits. The pending causes include breast cancer, autism, and the environment. When the new causes are added, you will be able to play similar games but the money earned will go to other non-profits you support.

We have already seen similar examples with the one that comes to my mind immediately being Free Rice where you improve your command of English and every correct answer earns you some virtual rice that is used to send real rice to people in hunger. I believe there must be other examples but since they are not over-hyped I can’t remember the names now.

In general I believe this is a good idea to use the community your website or social network already has to help improve some important things in our life. Besides, it is obviously one of the ways to increase interaction with your community and turn your casual visitors into loyal audience. And what’s more important, it is obviously one of the ways to do something useful with your community instead of encouraging users to constantly poke each other.
