This Year Blog Action Day Highlights Poverty

Svetlana Gladkova

Blog Action Day 2008 PovertyEvery year Blog Action Day unites bloggers around one topic to bring public attention and raise awareness of some of the most acute problems. Last year the problem discussed was environment and this year the topic chosen is poverty. All the bloggers are invited to participate on October 15th.

There are several ways to participate. The first and the most obvious one is to publish a post about poverty to discuss it from your point of view since the main idea of Blog Action Day is to discuss the topic of the year from as many viewpoints as possible. The second one is more tangible – participating blogs are offered to donate advertising revenue of one day to charities that deal with poverty or to finance a micro-loan on Kiva. And obviously, the more you can spread the word, the better.

So if you have something to say about poverty (and I’m sure many bloggers will agree this is a problem acute enough to deserve a very extensive discussion), you can register your blog on the Blog Action Day website and schedule a task for some time in the next 2 months to write a post about poverty for your blog (and maybe even get ready to donate your blog’s income of one day).

This video explains what the Blog Action Day is and it is intended want to change the everyday conversation to steer it towards the issue of poverty:
