What to Expect from Apple on October 14th

Today the hottest topic in the blogosphere is the fact that Apple has finally officially stated the date for its next major announcement where the new laptops by Apple will be shown to the invited reporters, journalists and bloggers. I have decided to summarize everything we already know about the announcement here and some of the most probably rumors to know what to expect and to see how true our expectations are.
First of all, the event itself will take place on Tuesday next week at 10 a.m. PDT in Cupertino. Apple has invited select media people to cover the event live (they have received the invitations this morning) and here is the list of publications that will be present for you to be able to tune in to their websites for live coverage: Engadget, CNET, VentureBeat, Digital Daily, Gizmodo, Ars Technica, and others. I have not found any information if the event will be live broadcast on the web but I’ll be sure to update this post should such information appear.
The invitations these bloggers received read “the spotlight turns to notebooks” so it is quite obvious that notebooks will be the center of attention this time and Apple will most certainly announce a new line of Macbooks that will probably contain 4 new laptops.
The general agreement for now is that the new Apple notebooks will be made of aluminum based on an entirely new rumored technology that is supposed to produce the casing out of a single piece of metal with no screws. Chances are they will also be slimmer than the current products as they were introduced quite some time ago and are already behind the modern standards. Another suspicion is that the cases will be traditional plastic with insides manufactured of aluminum only.
As for what products Apple will actually reveal, there is no consensus here. First of all, some people hint that Apple could introduce some ultra-portable machine to finally properly replace its own 12″ PowerBook. Others suggest that we will probably see at least one laptop in the price category of under $1,000 (and this is where I tend to place my own stake on as well). AppleInsider confirms that we should expect at least one new 15″ MacBook Pro to be released and offers some photos of the new device as a proof. MG Sigler of VentureBeat even suggests that Apple could be better off with something to offer on the low-end netbook market but admits this will hardly be what we will see on Tuesday.
You can see that we all have our expectations with many bloggers postponing their notebook purchases to see what exactly Apple will announce in a few days. After that the only question that remains is when exactly the newly-announced laptops will be shipped and this will probably be the biggest intrigue of the event along with prices for the new devices.
