TMT.Ventures’08 Zagreb – Web and Technology Event for Eastern Europe
by
on October 11, 2008,
We have already grown quite accustomed to the fact that all the most interesting things in the web 2.0 industry invariably happen in the Silicon Valley while the rest of the world can only hope to come up with a good startup now and then that will gain traction thanks to a Bay Area investor. But living in Russia I know pretty well that there are lots of innovative ideas along with talented developers in Europe as well.
Thus it is always a pleasure for me to see yet another conference dedicated to technology innovation and web 2.0 in Europe (with the most prominent being Loic Le Meur’s Le Web 3 December event in Paris). So I would like to introduce everyone interested in what’s going on in the European technology field TMT.Ventures’08 that will take place in Zagreb, Croatia on October 28. Profy is a media partner for the event so expect to see news from the conference reported here as well.
TMT.ventures holds regular events to connect entrepreneurs with investors in Central and Eastern Europe. Previous conferences took place in Kiev, Prague, Warsaw, and Bucharest. The main idea for the Eastern European events is to connect people in the technology field with each other and help them find opportunities for cooperation.
The Zagreb event later this month will feature prominent guests like president of the Warsaw Stock Exchange Ludwik Sobolewski, founder of TheFunded.com Adeo Ressi and numerous European VCs.
Also an important part of the event will be a competition for startups where every startup will get 7 minutes on stage to present the project and try to convince VCs this particular project will be a real success (and I think they will focus on financial success more than they usually do this time given the global economic crisis).
I am not sure if now is actually quite the right time to talk about venture funding for just about anything - even for the startups with solid business models. I’m afraid that VCs will most certainly be willing to wait a little and see what exactly will be the best position in the current economic downturn. But since such events are planned well in advance, at the very least startups will get the right contacts they will be able to use later when the general financial climate is better.
You will find the full agenda for the October 28th event here and if you are planning to be in Europe at the end of October, I do think this may be just the right place to connect to local engineering, marketing and financial talents for you.
