Simplicity Still a Viable Investment: Syncplicity Gets $2.35 Million

Syncplicity files sync logoNo matter how much we may talk about the economic downturn, there are still investments made when the projects are worth investing. The latest example is Syncplicity, a document synchronization solution that has announced $2.35 million funding today.

The funding is a post-seed round led by True Ventures with some unnamed private investors participating as well. The startup plans to use the funding to enhance the product’s functionality and will also invest in marketing to reach new customers for their solution.

Syncplicity offers an interesting tool for private and business customers to synchronize their documents across different devices (mobile devices and web applications included) to keep all the documents up to date even when they are simultaneously edited by multiple users on different computers.

The basic functionality of the tool (clearly intended for end users) is free but is limited with 2Gb and a maximum of 2 machines to synchronize. Subscription ($10 per month) provides access to unlimited number of machines to sync and 50 Gb but every additional 50 Gb will cost the same $10 monthly – which makes the solution kind of expensive for heavy users wanting to actually use it both for synchronization and backup of all the files, including all the family photos and videos as well.

Of course it is worth noting that any startup lucky to get any investment (let alone for a significant amount like this) deserves admiration in the current situation where VCs tend to think twice before financing an early-stage startup (and often deciding not to). But Syncplicity seems to be able to do the work just right and really lives up to the promise of making files sync as simple as possible and judging by the fact that investors believe in it, this could be just the right way to reach a success.
