Reminder: YouTube Live Event Today

Svetlana Gladkova,

YouTube Live event today, November 22Today, November 22, is the day of the very first live event for YouTube - YouTube Live - where performance of pop celebrities will be combined with indie rock bands and popular youtubers alike on one stage in the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. The event will begin at 5 p.m. PST and for now you can choose to embed the countdown widget to your own blog post or join the Facebook event for YouTube Live (which has almost 11 thousand confirmed guests already with the majority of them probably thinking about online participation only).

There are dozens of confirmed famous musicians and video bloggers, comedians and dancers to participate in the YouTube Live San Francisco event. The performance will be streamed live for the worldwide audience in their respective times. The main stage, backstage and off stage cameras will allow just about anyone in the world to feel involved and participating - even thousands upon thousands of miles away.

This is the very first time that YouTube is getting ready to move from recorded and uploaded videos to lifestreaming broadcasting a live event. And of course it may very well turn into a very new line of business for YouTube with lifestreaming such a hot trend and such a massive event looking like a good start.

Unfortunately right now may not be just the most appropriate moment for launching a new lifestreaming service (even for YouTube) after this week’s buzz about a “deathstreaming” event when a 19-year old committed suicide broadcasting all his actions on Justin.tv with tons of cruel comments from viewers encouraging him to move on. But of course we are not to blame the medium here as lifestreaming is just a tool and everyone uses the tool exactly how he or she deems appropriate.

The only problem that I see with the YouTube Live event now is the discontent of international users as there are quite a lot of unhappy comments from them. The reason is simple: the time difference between California and certain countries will make the event almost impossible to watch in real time for such countries where people will be asleep at the time of the 2-hour performance. But for these users parts of the show will be available to watch later on the YouTube channel so even the biggest fans of YouTube should not be too disappointed anyway. And for everyone not certain when exactly to expect to see YouTube Live event to begin where you live, check your local time at 5 p.m. PST here.
