Text Message Now Looks Like a Viable Alternative to Valentine’s Day Cards

Heart candies for the Valentine's Day are way better than a text messageOf course we all realize that the new technologies are changing everything in this world, especially the way people communicate, so it is no wonder they are getting everywhere, including in how people send their love to each other on Valentine’s Day. Before the 14th of February AT&T commissioned a survey that proves that text messages can be a good addition to traditional ways to demonstrate warm feelings like sending real cards or flowers.

The survey was focused on how text and picture messages will be used on the Valentine’s Day by cell phone owners. The findings are not particularly surprising as people claim that texting will be complementing traditional gifts and signs of affection instead of replacing them: of all the people who intend to send a text or a picture message to celebrate the Valentine’s Day 67% will also send a real card or gift to the people they care.

But the interesting part is that even though people do realize that texting is too virtual to be taken as a real gift and plan to add real cards or candies or flowers as the gifts to people they really care about, those who receive such messages should probably be more than happy with this sign of affection, no matter what form it takes: 48% of texters claim that a text message must mean the same or more than getting a real card while 68% of them thought that a picture message was also a perfect substitute to a real card. So texters actually hope to make many people very happy on the Valentine’s Day as 40% intend to send five or more text messages to both the people they are in a relationship and to their friends and family.

So basically the conclusion is pretty simple and not revolutionary: people value the attention and affection you are willing to give them, not the way you want to express this affection and text message may be a good supplement to whatever gift you’ve already prepared to your loved one but some people will be totally happy with a text message if they don’t even expect you to want to send some love their way.

But of course in the world where we can send text messages along with virtual gifts on Facebook with ease and think that we are done with expressing our romantic nature we should probably also try to send some real love to the people we really care about – at least for these people to realize some things in this hyper-connected and often way too virtual world are still real – your love included.
