Always Dissatisfied With Results of Your Work Week? Worktrek Is Here To Help You
May 11, 2009 |
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where by Friday night you feel that you don’t really deserve a good Friday party or even a movie in a theatre or don’t even have the right to spend the entire weekend having fun and rest after the long and productive week? I mean, have you ever felt that a week could be long but it was not really that productive?
I myself invariably finish every working week on Friday feeling that I could have done much more than I’ve actually done and while I have a feeling that this is probably because of my bad habit to plan way more than it is reasonably possibly to actually do but for everyone who feels unhappy about the results of our weekly work – be it for planning too much or actually not doing enough – we now have a nice little startup called Worktrek that is intended to push you and motivate you to work more productively when no project management tools and to-do lists help any more.
The main advantage of Worktrek is that it is just dead-simple: the only thing it offers is a calendar for users to mark every day either as productive or as non-productive using one of the three colors available here: green for productive, red for non-productive, and blank for neutral days when you don’t evaluate your productivity. As a result, you can easily see exactly how efficient your work has been lately.
Also for every given day you can add a small comment in addition to choosing a color so that you knew why you characterized a day as productive (or were unhappy with results). In addition to the simple calendar for your productive/non-productive marks, there’s also functionality for you to see the productivity stats both for yourself and for the entire Worktrek community to see which days happen to be more or less productive for all the users based on how they all evaluate their work progress.
Of course for now this is only the basic idea showing how it could be used by people to quickly see the level of their productivity. The plans for the future are very extensive yet obvious: things like widgets for iGoogle, Netvibes and various other personalized home pages, applications for iPhone, Android, and Windows Mobile devices, as well as integration with Outlook, Google Calendar and other popular desktop and web planning applications. This will all be added in the future to make use of Worktrek easier and more user-friendly – and eventually to motivate us better and help us achieve more impressive results.
What I’d really need to be added soon is a small reminder email that could arrive to my inbox every day about the time when I finish my work for me to visit the site or just reply with a code word for the application to fill in the info for the day for me. But I was told that this feature is already in the works so my dream will probably come true sooner than I expect.
Of course there are other web applications in the field of motivation like Don’t Break The Chain!, Rescue Time, and others but the charm of Worktrek is in its absolute simplicity: there’s no learning curve at all and everything is clear from the very first moments on the site. And I personally am a firm believer that motivation and time planning applications should not be complicated to the extent that they make us spend extra time on time management while all we want is a better way to spend our time on our work.
So if you believe in simple productivity tools, you should try Worktrek and maybe even register today to see how productive this week will be for you by Friday. Motivation specialists claim use of such small motivation things help and at the very least it will not hurt trying it out.
