Out with the Spam, in with Presdo for Facebook

Triston McIntyre,

Now that I've been able to rid myself of those pestersome "Pet Hotties" application invites (thanks to the wonderful "Block Application" feature), I genuinely look forward to receiving invites to creative and helpful applications. Though many are still lack-luster and questionable, I'm quite pleased with the direction many developers of Facebook applications are taking.
One application I can legitimately say I look forward to using is the forthcoming application for Presdo, a social calendar application that intuitively allows users [...]

iGoogle Receives Social Upgrades

Triston McIntyre,

I don't think there's a single person in the world that feels bad because Google hasn't been able to get its paws on Facebook, the current top social networking site. Try as Google might, Facebook 's Zuckerburg has no intentions of partaking in any sort of affair with the search engine behemoth.
However, it looks like Google is prepared to become socially linked-in itself. iGoogle, the popular homepage that links together all of Google's broad functionality, [...]

Year In Review: My Favorite Launch Of 2007

Paul Glazowski,

The last 365.2425 days - give or take - have comprised a pretty remarkable period of time. Everything in the tech space has appeared supercharged since that day of new beginnings past. Whether you look at advancements made in root technologies that have enabled the transmission of higher and higher quality media over the Web, or more singular accomplishments like new utilitarian services among the likes of office software built both for local and remote use and backup options that [...]

NetSuite, A Web-Based Enterprise Software Maker, Slated To Go Public

Paul Glazowski,

Update: NetSuite goes live on the NYSE today (Thurs Dec 20) with a raised price of $26 per share.
An IPO’s a-comin’! And the technological debutante having its public market premiere is none other than NetSuite.
Yes, the maker of software-by-subscription for a range of needs, including accounting, CRM (customer relationship management), and e-commerce, NetSuite is celebrating almost 10 years in business by tossing some stocks out to investors the world over – Dutch auction style. The New York Times [...]

Signs Of Growth Seen In Web 2.0 Development In India

Paul Glazowski,

Last month, the world registered a rather noticeable rumbling made at a technology conference in Bangalore. A rumbling having to do with the development of India?s own silicon-based industry. A rumbling in the way of a collective challenge posed by influentials in attendance at the gathering.
The challenge was a simple one, but no doubt momentous, too. It was, in effect, to spur technological growth in cities and towns all over India from a current point of $1bn gross revenue [...]

Tech Influentials Dare India To Grow Software Industry From $1bn to 15bn By 2015

Paul Glazowski,

The world of computer software is still largely dominated by localized offerings. You know, the stuff you put on your hard drive. The Microsoft Offices. The Adobe Creative Suites. All those handy utilities. And it?s understandable why they continue to command a great majority. They tap the processing power of our hardware systems very well; they?re there whether or not we have a connection to the Web; and, of course, there?s the very basic element of habitual familiarity that they [...]

Google Set To Debut OpenSocial Cross-Platform APIs Nov 1

Paul Glazowski,

Google’s finally let the cat out of the bag.
The company announced yesterday its intentions to create a project, dubbed OpenSocial (corresponding webpage is not active yet; Nov 1 is lauch day), very basically described to be a set of APIs, that will allow multiple platforms on the Web to play by a “universally” accepted common set of laws that will enable developers the option to “create applications that work on any social networks…that choose to participate.”
The reasoning for the [...]

MySpace Announces Plans To Open Platform To Third Parties

Paul Glazowski,

Months after Facebook opened its doors to third-party developers and effectively claimed a near majority of headline space for a good portion of the year because of it, MySpace’s CEO Chris DeWolfe and his overlord, Rupert Murdoch, stood upon the stage at the Web 2.0 Summit to announce their company’s own intentions to do the very same.
MySpace plans to make an official debut when it’s finished polishing its new platform, a point it will reach in “a couple of months.”
There’s [...]

Facebook Apps Get A Marketplace

Michael Garrett,

It has only been three short months since the launch of the Facebook Platform, which gave developers an opportunity to integrate other services into the growing social network via widgets, and this first quarter proved quite impressive.
Now, there are well over 3000 applications to choose from in the Facebook application directory. Some Facebook apps have even received noticeable attention from investors and interested companies. Where I've Been is one such example, which was rumored to have sold to TripAdvisor for [...]
