US-Based VoIP Provider SunRocket Closes

Paul Glazowski

SunRocket, the independent US-based residential (and small-business as well, I believe) VoIP provider, has closed its doors.
According to the company?s own in-house statistics (somewhat dated), SunRocket left the market having 200,000 active customers on its hands. They?ve likely now transitioned into 200,000 angry customers, as SunRocket did not bother so much as to give advanced notice of the closing. On Monday, the company simply left a recording to those calling its customer service line: ?We are no longer taking customer [...]

iPhoneDevCamp is a Huge Success!

Michael Garrett

It seems to me that iPhoneDevCamp was much more successful than I expected, especially for an event planned at the last minute. Nearly 400 developers, testers and iPhone owners showed up at the event that gathered at the San Francisco office of Adobe. Several photos were taken at the event and a keynote presentation was shown to the attendees. Several sponsors were also present at this event, where not all the programs were finished over the weekend, but several innovative creations [...]

Paul Glazowski

Deutsche Telekom Leads Investment Round In VoIP Company Jajah

Paul Glazowski

VoIP has thus far only become a serious player in the wired telecommunications industry. When it comes to things wireless, VoIP has yet to gain much ground.
That may soon change, however. Deutsche Telekom AG, a German corporation, is now leading a group of investors of Jajah, a startup (which went live in early 2006) that promises to save users a good amount of coin, particularly in instances of international spread, by routing calls via inexpensive VoIP connections. The latest round [...]

Akimbo VOD Direct to PC/TV

Phil Butler

Well, I was waiting for someone to hit the long ball and it looks like a company called Akimbo just smacked one into the parking lot. Yesterday Akimbo announced that they will release an Internet based video on demand service sometime next week.
The Beta release will support Windows XP and Vista based PC's and the RCA Akimbo player. Consumers of Akimbo services will be able to download Akimbo and access thousands of videos including full length movies, short subjects, [...]
