By now, I'm sure everyone has heard of Gizmodo's prank at CES, using a TV-B-Gone device to turn off displays at booths and during presentations. The actual offender has been banned from future CES attendance, with other ramifications possible. |

Blogging the War: The Blog Goodbye
by

Back in May of last year, I was concerned that the military's newest policy was going to restrict the ability of U.S. military personnel stationed in war zones to be able to use blogs to express their thoughts and feelings. As someone so entrenched in the blog medium, I couldn't imagine being part of the conflict in the Middle East and not having an outlet I could use to not only vent my emotions in a blog, but also have [...] |
Jorn Barger, Creator Of Term ‘Weblog’, Goes Back To Basics On 10th Anniversary
by

The evolutionary gem known as the blog has come a long way since its official origin back in the mid ‘90s. Jorn Barger, dubbed the designer of the term “weblog” (and it’s definition), claims to have started the trend – now a phenomenon of global proportions – by assembling a daily catalogue of links amassed from “travels across the Web.” How interesting, then, it is to find that, some 10 years since its basic introduction, the core of the concept [...] |

Pulse - My Shiny New Object

Last month I was completely underwhelmed by Pownce. If you've been under a Social Networking rock over the last little while, Pownce is a Twitter-like service which updates your social network about what you're doing, new links, new videos, etc. The appeal of Pownce WASN'T the service itself - it was the invite process. Everyone wanted to get an invite, then dangle it over their friends who, in turn, did the same to their friends. While the viral effect on [...] |
riffs: All Your Social Reviewing in One Place

I started to get social networking fatigue a long time ago, yet I have friends who keep asking me to sign up for more sites. They want to know what movies I like on Blockbuster or Netflix. And sure, there's I Heart Movies, but then you also get questions about what software you recommend. What your latest purchases are on iTunes. And your del.icio.us bookmarks. And your book recommendations. And I no longer remember where I have accounts nor what [...] |
Hakia On Search, Privacy and Trust
by
on June 17, 2007

I was visiting the hakia blog today and found an interesting post by Melek Pulatkonak their COO. Recent privacy problems in the news and particularly Google's "issues" in this area have prompted much discussion. According to this blog article hakia has initiated a second "Search for Better Search" conversation with these critical and debated issues in mind. I covered the first version of these conversations back in May after a great talk with Melek who went to great lengths to [...] |
Blogger Impact

The evolution of the blog has been an interesting one to watch. From something that began as an onilne diary; a simple way to not only keep a journal but also communicate en masse to friends and strangers alike, the medium has morphed into its very own media category, with blogs being used for everything from corporate communications and marketing to news to political lobbying. And while blogging is still used for online diaries, its impact is certainly gaining notice. |

Put people, not politics in the headlines with the new independent WebTV site Counteract.tv. Do you have something to say? Start a free account and share your videos and blogs, then search for others, see what they have to say, comment and discuss them. If a man cannot paint it, he writes it, if he cannot write it, he video blogs it; whatever medium works best for you to tell your story or send out an important message. |

Imagine my surprise when I was reading StartupSquad one day and realized that the company behind BlogBackupOnline was right in my own backyard. I recently had the opportunity to talk to Techrigy co-founder and President Aaron Newman about Techrigy and their approach to Web 2.0. |
