Utterz, Be Herd

Allan Herman

“Utterz, be herd.” Personally, I find that phrase sounding like a bad pun that only a slow on the uptake city slicker could appreciate, and I mean bad. Would the program be any better? Utterz, in their own words, “is the first way you can instantly blog your experiences, thoughts and ideas, anywhere, using all the capabilities of your mobile phone. Utterz mashes together the voice, video, pictures, and text you call or send in and creates an 'Utter' that [...]

Disqus This!

Phil Butler

Disqus is a new comment/discussion startup debuting today, and quite frankly it is very promising. This logical - enhanced online discussion tool allows blogs, websites and visitors to benefit from comments and relevant discussions in several ways. Disqus allows site owners to create custom discussion forums interfaced with a comments aspect for blogs and websites. The service can be utilized as a stand alone forum or as a companion to the comments tools. Disqus founder Daniel Ha told me that [...]

Jiglu Introduces Auto-Tagging For Blogs

Michael Garrett

Tags have long been an integral feature of many web 2.0 services and, although some believe that tagging may be having a negative effect on the drive towards the semantic web, the use of tags has continued to spread. For example, Wordpress 2.3 (the latest version of the popular blogging platform) now includes tagging support by default, without any plugin.
But what about existing blogs that never had tags previously, but would like to add them. Going through each post [...]

How Did I Ever Live Without IMified?

Leslie Poston

This week I discovered the most useful IM integrated Web 2.0 application that I've seen, IMified. This sleek little application is actually an IM gateway to dozens of other applications that you already use. It allows you to send your self notes, tasks, calendar items, and much more, all from your IM client on your computer or phone.
It integrates nicely with Google Calendar, which is the main reason I tried it out - I wanted to be able to take [...]

Google Fixes Blogger Flaws; Adds Video Support

Michael Garrett

Blogger, Google's free blogging service, underwent some updates this week, the first of which involved a technical problem with the blog publishing and hosting service and introduced a new feature that gives publishers the ability to upload videos to their sites.
Publishers who use Blogger had been experiencing trouble performing various editing and posting operations last Monday and Tuesday. Google was quick to notice and repair this issue, as it was no longer a concern by Wednesday.
Wednesday, however, was the [...]

Presidential Candidates And The Social Networking Space

Paul Glazowski

I read a Reuters story this morning, in which a 19-year-old by the name of LJ Tsunis was reported as saying how beneficial it would be for presidential candidates in the US running in the 2008 election to “start hanging out on Facebook.”
I would argue the opposite. It would be a very bad thing if candidates were to spend time on Facebook. Or any other Web-based social network for that matter.
This is no attack on those websites. They’re currently enjoying [...]

The Google/FeedBurner Rumor Mill

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira

Everyone's been abuzz about Dave Winer and his take on Google and Feedburner. According to Winer, this may CRIPPLE blogging, people! Google may tie Feedburner to Google Reader and if you don't use Feedburner, your blog may end up NOT WORKING in Google Reader.
There are days I wish I had the power Dave Winer does when it comes to reaction to something I write. Of course, I'd use my powers for good, not evil. In his "update" on the brouhaha [...]

Acting Against Child Predators - PAPA

Phil Butler

News of online crime crosses my screen every day as I am sure it does yours. It seems everyone is touched by this most negative aspect of our Web culture. These events transgress not only our digital existence, but the much more vulnerable physical one as well. The most heinous of these crimes, at least those we should consider so, are crimes against children. If we do not do anything about any other issue we are confronted with, protecting the [...]

Does Anyone Like MyBlogLog’s Community Messaging Tool?

Michael Garrett

If you have been using MyBlogLog, then chances are that you know about the recent changes that have been implemented on the service, particularly the new community messaging feature. Apparently, users have been demanding the ability to quickly send one message to all members of a community. At least that is what the team at MyBlogLog (MBL) is saying. I have yet to see any positive responses to this new feature, and believe me, I have looked. In fact, several bloggers [...]

Is Google the “Microsoft” of the Internet?

Guest Blogger

Google, a common brand and verb among technology and non-technology enthusiasts, is growing at an enormous rate! People can recognize this growth because of its many acquisitions of companies (ten so far this year), such as the seven major Web 2.0 products/services mentioned below (in the order of acquisition date) which consumes a good part of the internet pie:
Blogger.com: This was one of the most popular blogging networks, which was acquired by Google in February 2003. It has a huge [...]
