Jiglu Introduces Auto-Tagging For Blogs

Michael Garrett

Tags have long been an integral feature of many web 2.0 services and, although some believe that tagging may be having a negative effect on the drive towards the semantic web, the use of tags has continued to spread. For example, Wordpress 2.3 (the latest version of the popular blogging platform) now includes tagging support by default, without any plugin.
But what about existing blogs that never had tags previously, but would like to add them. Going through each post [...]

Will Italy Lose The Web?

Phil Butler

Though it never made the ‘big' news, Italy's latest foray into the bloggosphere is indicative of some rather strange thinking from their leaders. Prime Minister Romano Prodi's undersecretary Franco Levi composed the text to a law that requires anyone with a website or blog to register with the ROC (register of the Communication Authority). Site and blog owners will also be required to submit documentation, pay a tax and provide a letter of intent as to making any money. The [...]

HelloTxt - Making Microblogging Quicker And Easier

Michael Garrett

HelloTxt is a service that is very good at what it does, which actually isn't very much at all. But it's useful and easy, which counts for a lot.
Microblogging has exploded in popularity across the web with several different, but very similar, services now available. Although Twitter and Pownce are quite simple to use, anyone who has an account at both (or even at others such as Jaiku) knows how frustrating and time-consuming it can be to post the same [...]

Phil Butler

Our Web was the platform for a blitz by nearly 16,000 bloggers concerned with global warming and the environment today. Blog Action Day, a U.N. backed event, represents a significant milestone for Web 2.0. Bloggers from around the world participated in serving up ideas, tips and data to inform people via their blogs. Blogs have been a rapidly growing medium for concern and information about environmental problems. News on important issues from the U.N. summit to Al Gore's recent Nobel [...]

7 Tools To Make An RSS Feed Of Any Website

Michael Garrett

Considering how popular RSS feeds have become (primarily among blogs, but also elsewhere), I find it annoying when I come across websites that offer constantly updated content in a “feed-friendly” format, but neglect to offer this option.
Other times, I just want a more refined feed of one category of a blog. Some blogs offer multiple RSS feeds for each category, but many do not.
This is why I have compiled a list of online web services which allow anyone to create [...]

Paul Glazowski

Recently, many, many Buddhist monks began protesting day after day the actions and rule of the military junta currently installed as the de facto government of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, a nation located in Southeast Asia. The country’s main force of power, has so far decided to let those walking the streets to continue walking the streets unimpeded, fearing national and international condemnation if it were to take action against the clear message of resistance.

Google Fixes Blogger Flaws; Adds Video Support

Michael Garrett

Blogger, Google's free blogging service, underwent some updates this week, the first of which involved a technical problem with the blog publishing and hosting service and introduced a new feature that gives publishers the ability to upload videos to their sites.
Publishers who use Blogger had been experiencing trouble performing various editing and posting operations last Monday and Tuesday. Google was quick to notice and repair this issue, as it was no longer a concern by Wednesday.
Wednesday, however, was the [...]
