The Google/FeedBurner Rumor Mill

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira

Everyone's been abuzz about Dave Winer and his take on Google and Feedburner. According to Winer, this may CRIPPLE blogging, people! Google may tie Feedburner to Google Reader and if you don't use Feedburner, your blog may end up NOT WORKING in Google Reader.
There are days I wish I had the power Dave Winer does when it comes to reaction to something I write. Of course, I'd use my powers for good, not evil. In his "update" on the brouhaha [...]

Ramblings of a Mad Man

Guest Blogger

According to Wikipedia, 'Web 2.0' is a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003 and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004.
Until November of 2006, I had never heard of Web 2.0 and to be blunt I was not even remotely interested in writing a, "GASP", blog.  In the spring of 2007 that changed as I created, my first blog/RSS feed titled, "The Colour Blind Photographer". I would have done so sooner but personally, up to that particular [...]

Is Your Web Activity At Work Being Watched?

Michael Garrett

If you like to blog, visit your social network, or send personal emails at work, you may want to re-evaluate what you are doing. A new report now claims that almost 19% of companies have disciplined an employee for violating corporate policies that involve blogging and online forums. What's even worse is that 10% of companies have fired employees. These statistics have come from a recent survey by Forrester Consulting for Proofpoint, a messaging security company.
The report goes on further [...]

WebAppSale - The Marketplace for Web Apps and Widgets

Michael Garrett

News Corp. bought Myspace two years ago for $580 million. Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion less than a year ago. Yahoo! offered $1 billion for Facebook, but was ultimately turned down. Even the domain name Vodka.com was sold for $3 million last year. What exactly am I trying to get at here? The fact that there is a lot of money to be made on the internet through the sale of web services and domain names. Perhaps that is even what spurred [...]

Is Twitter The Next Big Advertising Medium?

Michael Garrett

TV Networks apparently have their eyes on Twitter as a new marketing strategy. According to the Wall Street Journal, ABC, CBS, MTV and NBC have started to experiment with the year-old service as a way to communicate with potential viewers and consumers. This seems like a potentially lucrative idea, considering that users are able to receive messages via SMS, IM, email or the Twitter website.
MTV personalities used the service to keep Twitterers updated about the MTV Music Awards directly from the red [...]

Does Anyone Like MyBlogLog’s Community Messaging Tool?

Michael Garrett

If you have been using MyBlogLog, then chances are that you know about the recent changes that have been implemented on the service, particularly the new community messaging feature. Apparently, users have been demanding the ability to quickly send one message to all members of a community. At least that is what the team at MyBlogLog (MBL) is saying. I have yet to see any positive responses to this new feature, and believe me, I have looked. In fact, several bloggers [...]

Afeeda Unveils Feed Aggregation Service

Michael Garrett

A new feed aggregator service known as Afeeda is out to simplify feed reading by allowing users to create a single feed that combines multiple feeds from different sources. You start out by choosing between making a personal, group or event feed. Personal feeds gather your own created content such as personal blogs and Flickr accounts. Group feeds are used to aggregate content from anywhere, while event feeds are centered around – you guessed it - events. Once you create a [...]

Automated Audio Blogging To Simplify News Consumption?

Svetlana Gladkova

It looks like automated audio blogging is growing increasingly popular these days. We reviewed Odiogo back in January, recently we have also talked about Talkr and when browsing podcasting apps on Simple Spark, the Web 2.0 categorized catalogue I was so impressed with on Thursday I have found another similar application named BlueGrind. This product has not been reviewed on Profy but anyway it is really a very new service (it only has a handful of already registered feeds and [...]
