I think everyone has been thinking for a while now about how the entire internet industry is flawed and how it will face even more serious problems in the future unless something is changed in terms of how businesses make money here. Recently every time a new startup sends me a pitch about their new product, I’ve been stubbornly asking them about exactly how they were planning to make money. |

There’s no doubt that the economic crisis we are now in now will damage some industries and change others. And of course internet will be one of the industries affected. I think it is already obvious that if there is one thing that needs to be changed and will probably change, it is the way new products are launched hoping to achieve popularity first and figure out how to monetize all the users at a later date. |

Yesterday we saw the first niche website launched by Twitter - Twitter E08 focused on presidential election campaign in the US. The website works by simply filtering twitter messages (tweets) from all users by certain keywords and aggregate these messages into one page. The site is updated with new topical messages in real time. |

I am not really all that superstitious - maybe not superstitious at all instead but today when I saw the International Herald Tribune article titled “President George W. Bush speech to the nation on the economic crisis” under the number 666 in my Google Reader I could not help but feel more than a little worried about it. |

Today we hear rumors that eBay is planning to sell StumbleUpon websites discovery tool after acquiring it for $75 million last May. And people immediately began speculating if eBay we only see the beginning of eBay selling some non-core assets to focus on the main line of business facing the possible huge 10% rumored layoffs. The next candidate for sale suggested is obviously Skype since it is in a very similar position in relation to eBay’s main business as StumbleUpon [...] |

Today there’s a story on ReadWriteWeb about a new look and feel of the Bloglines beta site introduced by the company along with finally making its web-based feed reader ad-supported. True, may of us have already decided that Bloglines has no chances to survive in the competition with Google Reader, the most prominent feed reader as we tend to believe. |
